Living in Mt. Juliet TN: A Guide to the City Between the Lakes
Living in Mt. Juliet TN: A Guide to the City Between the Lakes
I get asked about Mt. Juliet almost every week, and usually the question is some version of "is it close enough to Nashville to work?" My short answer: yes, and the lakes are the bonus. Living in Mt. Juliet TN means sitting in western Wilson County roughly 17 miles east of downtown Nashville, with Old Hickory Lake to the north and Percy Priest Lake to the south. The city leans into that geography, and its own Quality of Life page says Mt. Juliet is known as "The City Between the Lakes."
Here's what I walk buyers through when we start looking out that direction.
Where Mt. Juliet Sits, and How Fast It's Grown
Mt. Juliet is in Wilson County, west of Lebanon and just east of the Hermitage and Donelson side of Davidson County. Gallatin and the Sumner County lake towns are a drive up around Old Hickory Lake. The Lebanon Wilson County Chamber of Commerce puts the city about 17 miles east of downtown Nashville.
Growth has been the headline for two decades. The U.S. Census Bureau's QuickFacts for Mt. Juliet city shows an estimated population of 45,172 as of July 1, 2025, up from 39,289 in the 2020 census. For context, the 2010 count was 23,671. That pace explains both the new rooftops and the traffic conversations you'll hear at the ballfields.
Commuting: I-40 and the WeGo Star
Interstate 40 runs straight through Mt. Juliet, and the city has two I-40 exits inside its limits. That's the main artery into Nashville, and like any Middle Tennessee interstate, it rewards leaving early.
What makes Mt. Juliet different from most Nashville suburbs is the train. The WeGo Star commuter rail line still runs, and WeGo says trains operate every weekday morning and afternoon between Lebanon and Riverfront Station downtown, stopping at Hamilton Springs, Martha, Mt. Juliet, Hermitage and Donelson along the way. The Mt. Juliet station sits at 22 East Division Street with about 255 parking spaces, per WeGo.
WeGo's Star ride guide (revised November 2024) shows six weekday trains toward Nashville and six back out, with a one-ride fare of $4.75 from the Mt. Juliet zone and a $2.00 reduced fare. Service is commuter-shaped: inbound in the morning, outbound in the afternoon, no Saturday trains. If your workday runs long or unpredictable, you'll still want a car.
On the road side, TDOT has a planned diverging diamond interchange at I-40 and Central Pike (SR 265), which would widen Central Pike through the interchange area and add turn lanes, signals and sidewalks. TDOT's 10-Year Project Plan schedules construction to begin in fiscal year 2030, and the agency notes dates can change. Worth knowing if you're buying near that corridor.
Parks and Greenways in Mt. Juliet
Charlie Daniels Park, at 1075 Charlie Daniels Parkway, is the one everybody names first. The city's park page lists:
- Planet Playground, a 9,000-square-foot fenced playground
- "Squirrel's Run" toddler park with a concrete tricycle track
- Ava's Splash Pad
- A skate park and a gaga ball pit
- Four tennis courts and two pickleball courts
- Two sand volleyball courts and full-court outdoor basketball
- Five rentable pavilions, a gazebo and an amphitheater
- A one-mile walking track that connects to the Cedar Creek Greenway
That greenway connection is the part buyers underrate. TrailLink lists the Cedar Creek Greenway at 3.4 paved miles in Mt. Juliet, running from Charlie Daniels Park to Planter's Trail. The city's parks and greenways map also shows Mundy Park, Will Sellars Park, Robinson Park, Jones Family Park, Ethan Page Park, Hamilton Denson Park, Eagle Park, the Mt. Juliet Soccer Park and the Providence Trail. The city says Hamilton-Denson Park opened in 2024 and connects to the WeGo Star station, and describes more than 100 miles of trails, sidewalks and bike routes citywide.
Shopping and Dining Around Providence Marketplace
Providence Marketplace at 401 South Mt. Juliet Road is the retail center of town. Owner Kimco Realty lists it at 633,786 square feet of gross leasable area, which is why so much of the shopping, grocery and restaurant traffic in western Wilson County lands right there. Practically speaking, it means you're not driving to Hermitage or Lebanon for the ordinary stuff.
Old Hickory Lake and Percy Priest Lake Access
The two-lake setup is real, not just marketing. North of town, Old Hickory Lake is a roughly 22,500-acre Cumberland River reservoir, and the Corps of Engineers' Cedar Creek Campground carries a Mount Juliet address at 9264 Saundersville Road, with a swim beach on site per Recreation.gov.
South of town, J. Percy Priest Lake covers about 14,200 acres at summer pool across Davidson, Rutherford and Wilson counties, operated by the Corps of Engineers' Nashville District, with day-use areas including Cook, Seven Points and Nice's Mill. I fish both, and having two different reservoirs within a short drive is one of my favorite things about this side of the metro.
Schools: Wilson County Schools
Mt. Juliet is served by Wilson County Schools, the countywide district that also covers Lebanon and Watertown. The district lists five traditional high schools: Green Hill, Lebanon, Mt. Juliet, Watertown and Wilson Central.
Two of those carry Mt. Juliet addresses. Green Hill High School opened in 2020 at 220 N. Greenhill Road, and Mt. Juliet High School is at 1875 Golden Bear Gateway. Zoning is set by the district and gets redrawn as the county grows, so always confirm the current zone for a specific address before you write an offer.
Home Prices: What Living in Mt. Juliet TN Costs Right Now
Two numbers are worth having side by side, because they measure different things.
| Source | Area | Period | Median price | Days on market |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Redfin | Mt. Juliet city | Sep 2026 | $573,227 (down 0.26% year over year) | 79 (median, up 16 days year over year) |
| Realtracs MLS via Grant Hammond | Wilson County | Sep 2026 (preliminary) | $499,900 | 34 (average) |
Redfin also reports 226 homes sold in Mt. Juliet in September 2026, up 1.6% year over year. The Wilson County MLS snapshot shows 307 closings and 4.22 months of supply for the month.
About that days-on-market gap: those two figures are not the same measurement. Redfin's 79 is a median days on market for Mt. Juliet city, while the Realtracs county number of 34 is an average for closed sales across all of Wilson County. Different geography, different statistic, different listing-status rules. The honest read is that the city's median price runs above the county median — Wilson County includes Lebanon and Watertown, where price points are generally lower — and that homes are sitting longer than they did a year ago. Also note the county figures are preliminary; Realtracs numbers typically revise.
